I have a Henry T. Brooks, born August 2, 1834 in Columbia County, New York. His parents were Jacob (March 31, 1806-Sept. 14, 1875) and Jaclen? H. Brooks (d. bef. 1870). He may have had a brother named Clarke, born about 1838.

Henry T. Brooks married Helen J. Hoag in Fairfax County, Virginia March 18, 1858. According to the 1870 Census, their first child Frederick (Dec. 23,1858-June 21, 1941) was born in Virginia. Their second son, Clarke (October 24, 1861-April 27, 1923), was born in New York. Henry was appointed postmaster of Fairfax Courthouse April 11, 1862. He was succeeded by his brother-in-law Walter B. Hoag June 17, 1862.

Henry died July 12, 1865. I don't know where he died, but he is buried with his family in Fairfax, VA. I have not yet verified whether he enlisted nor do I have a cause of death. Since Helen was born in Schenectady, NY it would be reasonable to assume they were Unionists & may have moved to New York during the war in order to be behind Federal lines. In 1870 Helen & the boys were enumerated with Henry's father back in Fairfax.

My main focus is the Willcoxon family of Fairfax, Virginia. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
