FAYETTEVILLE - Harland Preston Compton passed away at the Beckley Veterans Hospital on March 22, 2012 at the age of 70 with his family surrounding him, his wife of 45 years, Geneva Adkins Compton; two sons, Eric Compton and Craig Compton; and grandson, Arritt, all of Fayetteville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gertie Compton, his brothers, Jackie and Alton Compton; and his sister, Loredia Garten.
Besides his immediate family, he is survived by seven sisters and brothers, Aldon Compton, Dennis Compton and his wife Nancy, Donna Stafford, Ella Blake and her husband Eddie, all of Gatewood, Karen Vass of Fayetteville, Darrell Compton and his wife Debbie of Oak Hill, and Magalene Stevens of Ravenna, Ohio; lots of nieces and nephews; and the Adkins family that love him and plenty of friends.
He attended Oak Hill Brethren Church where a dinner will be served following the funeral services
Pallbearers will be Guy Adkins, Jonathan Adkins, Michael Smith, Johnnie Stafford, Brad Compton, Darrell Compton, Alton Compton, Jr., and David Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Rev. William Skeldon officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Monday, March 26, 2012 at the funeral home.
