In the William and Mary Quarterly magazine, published in 1895, I found a listing of old tombstones in Charles City County. There are 2 interesting ones... one for the senior William Hunt (who had property siezed following Bacon's Rebellion) and one for his grandson, also named William Hunt. They are as follows: (Elder) Here Lyeth Interred y' Body of William Hunt "Sen" who Departed this life Novemb ye 11th Ano Dmi 1676 Aged 77 yeares. Note that they specify William Hunt "Senior", indicating that he has a living son named William. (Grandson) Here lyeth Interred the Body of William Hunt Eldest son of William Hunt who departed this life September the 9th day Anno Domini 1694 aged 11 yeares 8 months and 28 dayes Whose Birth was Joy But the day of his death was sorrowfull. Based on these two tombstones, I can extrapolate that the second child is the grandson of the original William Hunt, and that the child was born on 12 Dec 1682. If his mother, Tabitha, was at least 15 years old at the time of his death, then the latest she would have been born would have been 1667. |
