‘Uncle Tom’ Passes Away
Thomas Pemberton colored, better known as Uncle Tom, passed away at his home February 21 after an illness of several weeks. Uncle Tom was one of the county’s oldest citizens, having passed the allotted time three score years and ten. He was well kown and highly respected by both white and colored and will be greatly missed.

He leaves no close relatives, his wife having died about a month ago. Funeral services were held Sunday from Shiloh Church of which he had been a deacon for many years. Interment was in the family burying ground.
