We're currently researching an ancestor name, P. or Patrick Mathews, who lived in Lynchburg, VA and/or Baltimore, MD area. In the 1870 census, it shows that he was an 86 year old retired merchant, who was born in approx. 1784, somewhere in Ireland and had a couple of servants, living in his household. Mr. P. or Patrick Mathews had relatives in the Johnson Co., MO and Brooke Co., VA area (now W.V.). We do not know the names of his parents or siblings nor do we know if Mr. Mathews was ever married. Can anyone help Us? Where can we find an Obituary, Will or any other information about Mr. Mathews, such as the name of the ship he arrived into the U.S. or if he ever filed U.S. Naturalization papers.
