Earlier I posted that my family has a photograph of an old woman named Martha Breeze. I believe that she may be Martha Patsey McCormick/mack Breeze, born abt. 1802 in Buckingham Co., VA. She married John Breeze 2 May1840 in Ripley County, MO. They had James Porter Breeze born 5 Dec 1841 in Van Buren, Carter County, MO. Martha died 12 Jan 1878 in Walnut Hill, Marion County, Illinois.

On the paper frame around the photo, my great-grandmother wrote, "Amanda Frazier’s grandmother, Martha Breeze." Amanda Frazier is Amanda Elizabeth McCormick, my maternal great-great-grandmother (born 1861 Livingston County, MO, died 1941, same location). We know Amanda’s maternal grandparents, and they are not of the Breeze family. Amanda’s father is Stephen McCormick/mack, born abt. 1832. We can only assume that Martha Breeze is Stephen McCormick’s mother, however, we have never found any official records, such as a census, that confirms this. Breeze researchers have never heard tell of Martha McCormick having a son before she married John Breeze.

The only McCormick/Breeze connection I have found is Martha Patsey McCormick Breeze. Their son, James Porter Breeze, Stephen McCormick’s probable half-brother, lived in Livingston County, MO, at the same time that Stephen was living in Livingston County, MO.

If Martha’s maiden name was McCormick, then perhaps Stephen was born out of wedlock.

Can anyone help me find a connection between Martha Patsey McCormick Breeze of Buckingham County, VA, and Stephen J(?) McCormick? Also, does anyone have record of her parents and siblings?

I will be more than happy to email the photograph to anybody who is interested in this little mystery.
