William HEWITT and wife Tacey WILKINSON (both prob. c.1735) lived in Brunswick Co., VA and in 1761 had their eldest child, son John, born in the county. Other children followed. William and John fought in the RW, John eventually applying for a pension. This family moved from VA to NC>SC>GA. William and Tacey's children eventually split up, some remaining in GA, others moving to MO, IL and Amite Co., MS. There's a lot of speculation on William and Tacey. Were they born in VA? Married there? Who were their parents? A couple of researchers have put forward that William's Hewitt family came out of NJ, but he and his family do not follow any of the naming patterns of the NJ family and I strongly doubt it. Also there were Hewitt/Huitts in VA very early.

Nothing has been found on Tacey's family. The only thing I ever found was another Tacey Wilkinson, born decades later, who came from a Quaker family that eventually went into Ohio. Was the elder Tacey (c.1735) of Quaker stock, or just live near Quakers to pick up a name favored by them?

William & Tacey's sons were John (1761), William Jr., and others thought to be Solomon, Daniel, James. Daughters not indentified.

Looking for any Hewitts or Wilkinsons in Brunswick and surrounding counties that might tie to William and Tacey.
