Considerable research has been conducted on Jonathan Newman, b. 1730. The first know information on Jonathan was 14 May 1779 when he obtained land and served on a Jury with James Cloyd, Curtice Alderson, John Ross, JOINATHAN NEWMAN, Joseph McMurty, Amos Potts, WILLIAM NEWMAN, William Crow, Thomas Gillis and William McCleland. William Newman has not been found in other Botetourt County, Records. This information was found by Joseph W. Newman in Lewis P. Summer's ANNALLS of SOOUTHWEST VIRGINIA< 1769 - 1800.
William Newman could have been related to Jonathan Newman. No proof has been found.
I have conducted research of records of Hyde County, NC. William Newman's name appears on time. He requested that he be removed from paying taxes due to his advanced age. Richard Newman, a son of Walter Newman, of Cecil County, Maryland has been proven a resident of Hyde and adjoining Ccounties in North Carolina. His sister Rachel Newman Evitt Jones also appears in the above mentioned counties. Richard Newman had a son John Newman, No Jonathan. William Newman might have had a son, Jonathan.

Y-DNA Newman has proven that some known descendants matches markers of Walter Newman's descendants.
