Hi Freddy,
I haven't done research outside of Bedford County for many years but will try to answer the best I can.

I'm on the fence as far as Flayle Payne being the father of John Payne. I'm leaning more towards John as the s/o Thomas Payne. I know that's not going to be popular with other Payne researchers and I might change my mind with more evidence.

I don't have Elizabeth as a child of John Payne. I have 3 sons: John, William and Thomas and 3 daughters: Catharine, Sarah and Margory. Is there a source for Elizabeth as a daughter of John and Mary Payne?

There is a chancery record at the Library of Virginia website for Loudoun Co., VA that mentions John Grant and wife Violet. She would be an heir of William Chambers. John Grant is a common name but Violet is not. I haven't done a lot of research on John Grant so I'm unsure if the dates are going to match up. The chancery is listed under Loudoun County and would be John Booth vs Heir(s) of Thomas Stump Etc., 1815-006. Let me know if you think this could be the same John Grant that was in Bedford.

I don't know if Fincastle was at one time in Montgomery County since boundaries do change but Fincastle is now in Botetourt County.

There's a judgment at the State Record Center (not the Archives) in Richmond, VA that mentions John Grant and Francis Muncy. This is what I have as notes on the judgment:
Bedford Co., VA Judgments (SRC)
1787 (Box 59)
Botetourt Sc
Nov. 1787
...Thomas Llewelling...Saith that he heard Joseph Richeson give John Grant notice that at the first day of Bedford November Court he would move against Him for Judg.t, for a debt which said Richison was his security for to Francis muntsey: for which a Judg.t have passed against said Richison in Botetourt County which notice was given more than ten days Previous to that court Given under my hand this 24th Nov.r 1787.
You might already have this information but this is from another judgment in Bedford Co. which is also from notes.
Bedford Co., VA Judgments
Brown & c (Dance Brown an Infant by
John Grant his next friend)
Thomas Payne
on case for Services Rendered
my note: can't read very well.
This is from my notes on John Grant of Bedford which you also might already have:
Bedford Co., VA
Road & Bridge
Bedford Feb: Court 1785
...Road from Buford's Mill on Bore Auger cross Goose Creek
Samuel Baker, John Baker, John Grant,
John Nuchols[sp], Elisha Nuckols[sp],
Robert Sinclair, Isaac Sinklar, & others
my note: my & others could mean other names were listed.

There's a mountain in the Bore Auger area. On one side of the mountain is Bedford and on the other side is Botetourt so that would explain John Grant being in Bedford and Botetourt.

Hope this helps.
