I am helping my aunt with her Bell family. John Bell of Amherst County, VA put up a marriage bond (along with bondsman John Fitzpatrick) of fifty pounds on May 21, 1792, with intent to marry Susannah Littrell/Luttrell. Attached to the bond is a hand-written note from her father Richard Luttrell giving her permission to marry W. John Bell. On World Connect, I have found a tree in which Susannah and John Bell are listed, but with no children. Other children of her father Richard and mother Sarah Churchill/Churchwell? are followed into further generations. Does anyone know anything about Susannah's family - children? John G. Bell, whom we believe to have been John and Susannah's son, was born ca 1796 and was orphaned fairly young. He was reared by an uncle Drury Bell who was married to Rachel Lee in Amherst in 1789. John G. Bell migrated to California and then to Tennessee where he married Matilda Haley. They moved to Copiah Co. MS by the 1820's. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Sue Moore |
