A history of Amelia Co (sorry I don't have the author) gives the name A.M. Vaughn of Amelia who went in 1740 with traders to the Cherokee Indian country to the west. The last cabin they saw was on the Otter R. in Botetourt Co. He described the trading path to the French Broad R.
In 1746 an Abraham Vaughn had 525 acres on the lower side of Saylor's Creek in Amelia, the part that became Prince Edward in 1754. He was a neighbor of my ancestor Abraham Womack Sr. Abraham Womack Jr, later explored some of the same country, now Pittsylvania and Henry Co, possibly inspired by Abraham's story. Fay
