My ancestor Charles Clemens Cartwright Sr. is said by family historians to have served in the Mexican War. However, there is a great deal of contradictory information about he and his parents' movements and I'm not sure whether he would have lived in Virginia or Ohio leading up the war. Immediately after the war he married Mary Sinks, who was of Quaker ancestry, and there is some suggestion that Charles may have become a pacifist. He apparently was an anti-war activist in Ohio and Indiana during the Civil War, but this may be linked to his own Virginia ancestry. Anyway, I would like to confirm his service in the Mexican War. Can someone tell me if there is an easy place to look, preferably online or available on microfilm at most libraries? -- Frank T. |
