On April 3, 1848, Dr. Thomas Neely Lowe wrote, "More difficulty than usual in getting the sick into waggons [sic]--Liet. Amyx knocked an impudent waggoner off of his mule with his gun...." Perhaps this was the cause of his court martial? The above reference can be found in A Southern Lacrimosa edited by H. Grady Howell, Jr., Chickasaw Bayou Press, 1995 page 100. JOhn |
