LtCol Samuel Edmundson Watson, USMC, had been commanding officer of the Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., and earlier as a Captain, the C.O. of the Marine Barracks at the Portsmouth Navy Shipyard, Kittery, Maine. There he was friends with my Dover, N.H., Watson family; but I think Samuel's family were state of Virginia Watsons? He was buried in Mexico with another Marine officer, the son of a Marine general. I think the general's son's remains were removed to the U.S. I do not know if LtCol Watson's were? Officers at the Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., wore black armbands in his memory.
