Hi,

I just posted an old newspaper article reporting that the "Sumter Volunteers" regiment had arrived in Mobile, Alabama, on board the steamer Winona. They were on their way to the Mexican War. Officers mentioned were WINSTON, GIBBS and PRESTON.
This was scanned from an original issue (NOT microfilm!) of the The Mobile Journal and register newspaper (Mobile, AL) dated May 26, 1846, and you can see it online here:
