Mary, my father was in the 5th Marines during WWII. At that time they were a part of the 1st Division. I was not aware that they were ever part of 2nd Division, so the info in your inquiry is a little confusing to me. If you could elaborate on the info that you have (for instance, the time period of his service), I'll try to help.
