Another Bomber lost in the same Day of war of my large Research – Sunday 19 December 1943 - is the Boeing B-17F “ The Thunderbolt” , 97th Bomb Group , 342nd Bomb Squadron , M.T.O. , XV A.F. , Airport Cerignola , Pilot Capt. Robert M. Dawson , 2 K.I.A. , 8 P.O.W.
Target : Marshalling Yards of Innsbruck , Austria . Missing Air Crew Report # 1520.

Thanks to the web net I was contacted by some offspring , daughters above all , of these Crewmembers and we are working to save the Memory of Airmen that suffered sacrifices or lost their lives fighting from the Southern side of the European front.

A German fighter hit the bomber and in the nr.2 engine started the fire.
The Fortress fell in a Valley of the Suedtirol , a large territory of Italia where the People talk German language.

Here the Crew :

Pilot : Capt. ROBERT M. DAWSON 0-740762 . P.O.W.
Co-Pilot : 2nd Lt. HAROLD B. NOVAK 0-666799 . K.I.A.
Navigator : 2nd Lt. EARL B. SULLIVAN 0-682258 . K.I.A.
Bombardier : 2nd Lt. THOMAS J. McHUGH 0-670057 . P.O.W.
Engineer : S/Sgt. GEORGE F. BARTH 13044506 . P.O.W.

Ball T Gunner : Sgt. JOSEPH L. RADANOVIC 35389363 . P.O.W.

I look for contacts with ALL the Families and Relatives also far for rebuild the Stories of every Airman dead or survived. I can offer pictures , info, documents , tales about this sad event.
Probably the next Year there will be a Memorial in honour of these Soldiers in the Village nearest to the crash ground that I know well.
I hope in the help of Historians & WWII Researchers that will be remembered by credits and invited to the Ceremony.
Grateful for any aid.

Giorgio
