It appears to me that Lucinda was born in LA since that's what it says in the 1860 and 1870 census records, and she probably gave that info herself since William was dead by then. And I do think her name was Lucinda. Probably the enumerator was confused about the daughter's name Lucretia and wrote the wrong thing for Lucinda.
There might be an "X" at the end of her name, and it could even be Pappadeaux. Can you check the death records of any of the other children?
Also, I see on Rootsweb's WorldConnect site in one place that William's father may have died about 1845 in Louisiana, so maybe that's where William and Lucinda met and married?
