Why do you ask? Have you seen something that makes you think this?
I have never heard of this, and don't find anything about it by Googling, but I do know that settlers coming from the U.S. to Texas in the 1820's and early 1830's were required by the Mexican government to become Catholic before they could own land, and marriages occurring in those years had to be conducted by a Roman Catholic priest. One couple in my line were married Catholic in 1835, and then had a Methodist ceremony.
