A couple of entries on Rootsweb's WorldConnect site say his parents are George Newman and Lucy, maiden name perhaps Perry. I found this family in 1880: 1880 census, Stephens Co., TX: George Newman, age 30, b. IN, parents b. IN, attends stock Lucy Newman, age 36, b. GA, parents b. GA John Newman, age 5, b.
