Hi Richelle,

Any kind of marriage or birth certificate prior to 1903 might be very difficult to come up with, although a few folks did actually register their marriages at the Tom Green County Courthouse in San Angelo. Office of the County Clerk is located at 124 West Beauregard, telephone number: 915.659.6556.

The State of Texas did not require the registration of births, marriages, divorces or deaths until 1903, however, the law was not fully enforced until the 1930s.

Other possible sources for marriage records would be in some of the older churches of San Angelo, but you would need to know what religion your ancestors went by. And even that could have changed due to circumstances, i.e., my ancestors wanted to build a Baptist Church in their community near Angelo back in the 1880s, but the only circuit Preacher in the area at the time was a Methodist, so that's what they all became.

I understand that the Tom Green County Historical Society has recently published the county history, which might also be of use.

Good luck with your search.
