On the 1910 Throckmorton Co, TX census Harper has a mortgaged farm. And he is shown as born in AL on all census records.

Smith, J.K., fth-in-law, 70 wid, b MS, TN, TN

1900 census Comanche Co, TX, handwriting looks like Carper, but probably your Harper, and the other men close to his age are probably brothers, note all three have blanks for location of birth of father and mother:

Taylor, Carper[sic], h, b Jun 1877, 23, M 4 yrs, b AL-Blank
" Louis[sic], w, b Sep 1878, 21, M 4 yrs, 0 children, b TX, AR, MS
[Note "Carper" born in June, same as your Harper]

1880 census Hill Co, TX, note looks like above John in this family with Elexander:

Mary TAYLOR Wife M Female W 25 AL K. House NC NC
Annie TAYLOR Dau S Female W 11 AL School AL AL
John TAYLOR Son S Male W 8 AL Home AL AL
Elexander TAYLOR Son S Male W 2 AL AL AL

If you go to the Taylor forum, in the box labeled Jump to # type in 21124. Someone has what looks like the above Hillery. They show him as William Hillery, but he does die in Hill Co, TX. It's an old post, but they have posted as late as last year on other forums. Maybe they've found more info since the old post. Sharing sometimes gets results, too.

Happy Hunting (^_^)
