Elias J. Wingo married Mrs. Adaline Wardlow in Rusk County, Texas on 12/24/1868. Elias was born about 1810 in South Carolina. Elias, a widower, had fled Bartow County, Georgia with his youngest children when the Yankees came to burn his plantation during the Civil War.

Elias and Addie Wingo were in Denton County, Texas by 1870. They were enumerated in the 1870 Census in Pilot Point as follows:

Elias J. WINGO/56/Male/White/Farmer/200/South Carolina
Adline WINGO/45/Female/White/Keeping House/Alabama
Lyonell WINGO/20/Male/White/Driving Stock/South Carolina
Caroline J. WINGO/17/Female/White/South Carolina [Josie]
Martha J. WINGO/15/Female/White/South Carolina [Mattie]
William WARDLAW/16/Male/White/At Home/Alabama [Will]
John WARDLAW/11/Male/White/At Home/Texas
Allen WARDLAW/10/Male/White/At Home/Texas [Al]
Eddie WARDLAW/7/Male/White/At Home/Texas [Edward]

Martha Jane Wingo (Mattie) married Joe B. Doyle, and they were my great-grandparents. They lived in Palo Pinto County, Texas.

Caroline Josephine Wingo (Josie) married Samuel Taylor Reding. They lived in Slidell, Wise County, Texas.

I have no information on Lyonell Wingo.

Addie was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, 10 miles east of Denton, with her son Al's family. Her headstone reads:

Adie D.
Mother of A. and Edward Wardlow
Apr 27 1826
Nov 14 1902
(Wardlow inscribed on the base)

I have no information on Elias J. Wingo's death or burial.

I would appreciate any information on either family.
