ALBERT GALLATIN COOPER>the son or Col. Robert Melville Cooper,b. So.Carolina>Born June 22, 1817 Maury County Tn.; died Feb. 28, 1883; Weatherford, Parker Co. Texas.
Albert G. Cooper, was buried about 9 miles south of Weatherford on Granbury Hwy at Spring Creek Cemetery.
There is a headstone at Spring Creek Cemetery erected by State of Texas to "Colonel Alfred G. Cooper "
Seminole Florida War, 1836 - Captain Mexican War 1846 - Lt. Col. Confederate Army, 1862 - Born in Tennessee, June 22, 1817 - Died February 25, 1883.
Albert Gallatin and Colonel Alfred G. Cooper are the same person with the birth name being Albert Gallatin Cooper.
Pvt. to Corp in Capt John B. Hamilton's Company lst Tennessee Mounted Militai, Seminole (Florida) War. Enlisted June 16, 1836; corporal July 4, 1836 to Jan. 14, `837; enlisted as Second Sergt. may 28, 1846, to Captain of Co C, lst Regiment Tennessee Mounted Infantry (Mexican War), June 6, 1846 to may 29, 1847; Lieutenant Colonel 19th (Biffle's) Division, Forrest's Cavalry Corps, Dept. of Tenn. and Georgia, Confederate Army; resigned Dec 13, 1864 for physical reasons....
A.G. Cooper wrote his father Robert Melville Cooper many letters that have been preserved in the book "Hugh Cooper 1720 - 1798 Fishing Creek So. Carolina by Lillian L. Word Roberts; McElheny Publishing Co. Forth Worth Texas 1976.
Mrs. Roberts says of the momument placed there by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas for his service in the Mexican War, " but they have his name "Alfred Gallatin Cooper" instead of Albert. The difference in the first name has confused researchers. However, the data on the marker is correct and certainly belongs to Albert Gallatin Cooper, soldier of three wars."
