Long over due update:
This will not make sense, unless you read the #377 message!
Thomas David POWELL's wife was Eliza Jane STIEFER, NOT STOFLE!! Her name on the marriage license was difficult to read. I think the Stiefer family were of German extraction, and coming from deep south, she probably pronounced her last name much differently than we would now.Their son William Johnson Powell b. 1864, told my husband and I, "Grandma was a big, tall Dutchwoman." Even when I was a youngster, in TX and OK,people tended to describe German people by the word,"Dutchman".
Also, I have found (overlooked the county of birth of a grandson in my own records no less!) that a son of Thomas David and Eliza Jane Powell, lived in Parker Co. TX, in 1909. The son, Denton Clark Powell b. 7 Dec. 1875 ( a twin), had a son born there, Troy Dalis Powell was b. 28 Oct. 1909. So the couple may have been in Parker Co. TX with their son, Denton "Dick" Powell.
