Ok, I've hit a major brick wall and was wondering if there's anything else left that I can do to find my lost ancestors. I'm stuck in 1825. My great x3 grandfather, James Paul Taylor, was born in 1825 in, according to his later census', either Mississippi or Tennessee. I know a lot about his life, but i'm trying to figure out who his parents were. If I don't have any names, and if all they listed in the old census records was the head of households, am I just out of luck? There's a chance his father's name could have been Zechariah, but through all my searches, I have found NO Zachariah Taylor's living in Miss or Tenn in that time frame. Or anywhere else in the U.S., for that matter. I've found a Z.M. Taylor living in Montgomery, TN in 1860. And a Z. Taylor living in Lauderdale, Miss. in 1860. My question is this...unless I stumble upon a family history or an old family bible, am I pretty much done? James Paul Taylor is listed on the 1850 census in Panola Co., Texas. He was 25. In any 1840 census he would have been 15, and not listed, as he would not have been the head of the household. I sure wish these people had kept diaries! Haha.
