I am very interested in making contact with someone that is researching Samuel John Brasher and his father Richard Harrison Brasher while they lived in Shelby County, Alabama and Panola County, Texas. In particular, has anyone found Samuel John Brasher on the 1870 Census (Texas or Alabama) and if so, who was his spouse at the time?

The reason I ask is that numerous people have listed that Samuel J. Brasher married Cordelia F. Poindexter in Shelby County, Alabama April 17, 1864. This is odd because according to the marriage certificate (which I have); Samuel S. Brasher was the husband.

In addition, he is listed in the 1860 and 1870 Census (Shelby County, Alabama.) as Samuel S. Brasher born about 1838 in Alabama. The 1880 Census lists Cordelia as single (not widowed) with her and known children living next door to Benjamin Poindexter.

If Samuel S. Brasher and Samuel John Brasher is not the same person, then what happened to Samuel S. Brasher? Samuel John Brasher is in Panola County Texas in 1880 with wife Julia and the rest of Richard H. Brasher’s family.

Any help that can shed any light on this family, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
