For those that have roots and/or connections with Starks, LA, I'm sure you've heard references made to the late James Albert Johnson, our hometown genealogist.
Mr. Johnson spent many years taking photos of old photos and gathering stories from years gone by. After his death, his widow kindly allowed the Starks Historical Society the use of his collection of photos, and we were able to photocopy them for public use in our library. Since then, Mr. Johnson's collection was lost in a house fire.
Although the James A. Johnson Photo Collection that we house in our library is photocopies only, I believe it is probably the most extensive collection of this nature in this area. Some of the copies are repeats, but with 13 volumes of photos, you can easily see how he came up with some 3700+ photos.
A number of people have asked for their own copy of his collection, but this has not been available until now. We have just completed the groundwork for putting these photos on CD and will be making them available to the public within the next few weeks. For more information, please do not reply to this message, but rather a personal email, to me: firstname.lastname@example.org
Although the info is not up yet, we should have it on several websites soon:
Again, please do NOT reply to this message in this forum, but rather a private email. Thanks to all of those that have encouraged us to continue in our endeavors to preserve history, and to those that have been most generous in their purchases made at the Starks Historical Society
