JOHN WEATHERLY, 87, SUCCUMBS THURSDAY

Funeral services for John Weatherly, 87, will be held Saturday morning, Oct. 26, at 10 o'clock in the Bethel Baptist Church in Appleby with the Rev. Milburn Bowers of Shreveport, La., the Rev. Lonnie Webb of Rusk, and the Rev. Moultrie Ervin of Appleby officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Nacogdoches.

Mr. Weatherly died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 24, at 3:45 o'clock in the Rusk Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 26, 1870, in Appleby, Mr. Weatherly was the son of Sarah McCuistion and E.M. Weatherly and was married June 3, 1891, to Lucy Hunt Weatherly who preceded him in death.

As a young man, Mr. Weatherly taught school and for a number of years was postmaster at Appleby.

Primarily a farmer and surveyor, Mr. Weatherly was interested in movements for the better of agriculture and for a number of years was a member of the state board for the Soil Conservation Service when that agency was in its infancy.

Mr. Weatherly had lived his entire lifetime in the Appleby community where he was a member of the Baptist church and the Milam Lodge No. 2, AF and AM.

Survivors include one daughter, Miss Johnnie Lou Weatherly of Rusk; two sons, L.C. Weatherly of San Antonio and B.E. Weatherly of Nacogdoches; one sister, Mrs. E.J. Hunt of Alto; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Larry Boyett, N.F. Burt, Eugene Weatherly, Willie Shepherd, Marvin McBride and Clyde L. Arnold.

Cason, Monk and Company Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NOTES:
(1) Some records lists his name as: John M. Weatherly. It is thought that his full name may be "John Mitchell Weatherly" as he was the son of Edward Mitchell Weatherly, Sr. and Sarah E. McCuistion.

(2) His obituary states his date of marriage as June 3, 1891. This may be in error as Nacogdoches County Marriage Records, Book F, 1889-1894, states his date of marriage as June 4, 1891.
