I am seeking information on the Weeden/Weedin families that lived in Nacogdoches, Harris, and Van Zandt Counties in Texas.
Rolin (Roland) Weedin was born in Georgia in about 1817, according to the census. His parents were born in Rhode Island. He married Julia Ann Evans in Maury County, Tennessee on 9 May 1835. They had at least one child born in TN, John in abt 1837. The next 3 children were born somewhere in Mississippi, Eliza (abt 1841), James P. (abt 1843), and Martha A. (abt 1846). Their next child, Sarah Frances "Fanny", was born in abt 1848 in Texas. Malissa A. was born in 1850. This family is listed in the 1850 Nacogdoches County, Tx, census. There were other Weedin families living in this county at that time.
By 1860, they were living in Harris County, Tx, with 2 more children, Laura P. (abt 1852) and Mary H. (abt 1856). They were still there in 1870, but I have been unable to locate most of them by 1880. Leven Byard Weedin also lived in Harris County, and I think that he may have been the reason that Rolin moved his family there.
I have found several marriage records for these children in Harris County. The girls married men named Smith, Barksdale, McLean, and Stocking. They seemed to live in the Cedar Bayou area and also Morgan's Point.
In the mid-1880's, Sarah F. and her husband, Robert D. Smith, and their children were living in Van Zandt County, Tx. James Thomas Weedin and his family lived in the same area, and I believe that they were somehow related.
I would like to know the relationship between these Texas Weeden/Weedins, and would really like to know how Rolin fits in with the Rhode Island Weedins.
