Carolyn: I haven't heard the ghost story references you make, but one of our Milam County Genealogical Society members, David Galbreath, has ties to the house and sent me the following message about it recently: "The Beard House(old Rock House south of Milano on TX-36) is being restored with modern improvements.
The Beard House was completed in 1891 by the G.W. Beard family. It was sold recently to Donny L. Hamilton, professor of Anthropology at Texas A&M University. He has a power pole in place and connection to community water.
A new roof has been added and cement slab flooring, that will be overlayed with hardwood. The north fireplaces will be retained but with either gas or electric logs for heat. Doors and windows will be upgraded to match earlier styles.
It is and has become a labor of love for Professor Hamilton. He has talked to some family about the Beards and has stories and old photos of the period." Mr. Hamilton would probably enjoy hearing about the ghost story/stories associated with the old house.
