I am descended from John Washington Poe and first wife Sarah Jane Stapp. Their daughter Frances Evelyn Poe m. Thomas Benton Owens probably in Texas. John Washington Poe's parents, I believe are: William Poe b. 1800 in SC and Sarah Elizabeth Mackey b. abt 1802 in SC. I do not know their parents and more research in the South Carolina, Georgia and St. Clair Co., Alabama areas needs to be done. From the 1850 St. Clair Co., AL census we find: William Poe 50, b. SC, Elizabeth 48, b. SC, Emeline 21, b. GA, Sarah 19, b. GA, Mary 17, b. GA, John W. 15, b. GA, Jonathan 13, b. GA, Elizabeth 11, b. GA, William M. 7, b. GA, Delitha 5, b. AL. From another source there is also Frances E. born in AL. Hope this helps.
