There are no marriage records for Llano County pre 1880 due to a courthouse fire. BUT, I do know WHO these people are. They first knew each other back in vicinity of Polk Co. AR, but pre 1860, both the Jones and SHULTS families came to Texas, settling along the Colorado River in Llano Co. The SHULTS were here at least by 1855, as several members of that family signed the petition asking the State to create a new county out of the Bexar/Gillespie Districts.

Hannah Catherine is the daughter of Joseph R. Shults and wife Eliza Duff, granddaughter of Valentine Shults of PA, TN, then AL, and James & Mary Duff of SC, KY.

William is a brother to the Charles Jones and to the Isaac Alexander Jones listed near him on the 1860 Llano Co. Census. Isaac A. Jones' wife was also a Shults, but she was a first cousin to Hannah Catherine, through Joseph R. Shults' brother, Kennison Shults m. Matilda Duff, a sister to Eliza---double cousin connection. I have suspected Charles' wife to be a sister to Isaac's Shults wife, but Charles went on into Mason Co. after 1860 where he continued to live out his life, and some in that family say his wife was a Sharp???? (Needs more work) Isaac and wife, however, returned to Polk Co. AR, where they continued to live.

I'm not sure of the why's, but it looks like William and his Shults wife went to Coryell Co. shortly after the census of 1860, as RECORDS there show his wife is buried in a marked grave in Coryell Co. There were SHULTS cousins that lived in that area early, so they might have decided to join them over there, or at least were visting them when she died.

He did remarry......and joined his brother Charles in Mason County, I believe.

Hannah Catherine is verified as the daughter of Joseph R. & Eliza Duff Shults in that family's personal BIBLE, which is in the possession of some of the Llano Co. Shults descendants. I have seen the Bible personally, and I have recorded the information written in the Bible, which only includes the birth dates for the family, EXCEPT for Eliza Duff's mother, whose death date and age at time of death are recorded. mary Duff is the person in Llano County with the OLDEST BIRTHDAY in a marked grave. She was born around 1775 and died in 1857, age 82.

Mary Duff is buried in the Bluffton Cemetery alongside her daughter Eliza and husband, Joseph R. Shults, and beside another daughter, Cynthia Duff Arnold.

I am also a SHULTS descendant, but not through Joseph R. Shults. I descend from TWO of his siblings---Elizabeth Shults m. Elijah Arnold (who married the above Cynthia Duff after Elizabeth died) and Martin S. Shults.
