I am the museum coordinator/archivist for Padre Island National Seashore, a national park on the coast south of Corpus Christi. I have been researching early settlers on (northern)Padre Island and would appreciate any information anyone can send me on anyone who inhabited Padre Island (north of the present-day Mansfield Channel) during the 19th century. At that time, Padre Island was part of only two counties: Nueces and Cameron, both of which extended into the area I am researching.

When I post my requests for information on a family Genforum, I usually provide a good deal of background information, so if you are seeking information on a island family, check the family genforum. I have been doing this only within the last one-two months, so all my postings will be after September, 2005.

The families I have encounterd so far are: Mary B. Lively, John King, Cary Curry, J.T. Lyne, Rodgers, Murdock (possibly William or Henry), Griffin, Graham, Peter Benson, James Dinn, Patrick Dunn (I know there is a wealth of information on his family), Tilley (a reported hermit and possibly a "wrecker" of around the time of the War with Mexico), Frondilago (unsure of the spelling), Jose Maria Tovar, Nicolas Grisante, and probably a few others I cannot recall offhand.

Of course, I will reciprocate by gladly providing information I come across.

I am trying to be as accurate as possible as I am building the history of the island for our park. Therefore I would appreciate any copies of official documents anyone can donate. Anything I recieve will be entered into our park archives and made available to researchers. If you donate something, you can set restrictions on how it is used in terms of copyright, etc. I may ask you to fill out a donor's form, but whether you do so is at your discretion.

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide in putting together this grass roots history of this island and park.
