I think George was hiding from the authorities. The article in the newspaper said he left the country. I found the family in Florida in 1860 but cannot track them further except for a son who made it to Louisiana. Here is the transcript of the newspaper article that appeared in the Bibb County Newspaper. George Minchew was my husband's gg grandmother's brother.

Milledgeville, Georgia, Newspaper Clippings(Southern Recorder)
Volume IX 1853- 1856 Page 5, by Tad Evans
       A PROCLAMATION,
By Howell Cobb, Governor of Georgia.
Whereas, I-have received official information, that a murder was committed on the body of Aaron Blalock, in the county of Bibb, in the this state, on the 26th instant, by George Minchew; and whereas and it being represented to me, that said Minchew has fled from justice,--I have thought proper to issue this, my proclamation, hereby offering a reward of $150 for the apprehension and delivery, to the Sheriff or Jailer of said county, the body of said Minchew; and I do moreover charge and require all officers, civil and military, to be vigilant in endeavoring to apprehend and bring to trial the said fugitive, in order that he may undergo a trial for the offense with which he is charged.

Murder was committed 12-26-1852 according to the Georgia Black Book.

Looks like he was wanted Dead or Alive so he did not want anyone to know where he was.
