ATTENTION: Marie Taylor

Lewis Stevenson "Steve" "Lew" McCloud, Jr. is regarded by many as one of the foremost researchers/compilers of genealogy on the Carraway/Caraway family of Gonzales County, TX, and many of their allied families as well. Sadly, he died 8 May 2000.

It would be of great interest to me and others who admire the work of Steve McCloud if you would expound on your remark, Quote: "A word of caution of the record compiled by Lewis McCloud. It contains a lot of errors."

Could you please be specific and advise us as to exactly what errors you are referring?

As most researchers know or soon find out genealogy is a work in progress that the genealogist never completes; it is always subject to change with the discovery of new source documentation. We also know that a compilation of work such as Steve McCloud's is meant to serve as a "guide". Steve never proclaimed his work to be error free. He always encouraged those of us with whom he shared information to use his compilations as guides. Steve stressed the importance that we find good source documents to prove our work.

It would be diplomatic, tasteful and respectful if in future you simply recommend that all genealogy researcher's records be thoroughly sourced; even yours.

Sincerely,

Liz Farthing
