My gg-grandfather, James Henry Stevens, is listed in Enumeration District 59 (June 10, 1880) of the 1880 Frio County, TX census as a 21 year old laborer (born in Texas, both parents from Texas), with his wife "Syntha" (19, keeping house, born in AR, parents both from Illinois). One daughter, "Lutitice" ["Loutishie"], 2 years old, born in Texas. A niece of "Syntha's" was living with them, Sarah R. Chambers, 5 years of age (TX, IL, IL). Next door to them was William (32--farmer IL, IL, IL) and Ellen Adcock (30--keeping house, IL, IL, IL--presumably, "Syntha's" sister??), and living with them was William Wisdom (45 year old farmer, IL, IL, IL, and father in law of William Adcock). Their kids were Frances (a son 11--MO, IL, IL), Edmund (6--TX, IL, IL), John (3--TX, IL, IL) and Dolly (2--TX, IL, IL). Three sons of William Wisdom were living with him: James (14--IL, IL, IL), Edward (11-- MO, IL, IL) and Elijah (6--TX, IL, IL).

In 1882, the Stevens family moved to Fayette Co.; I think they lived at Cistern or Waelder and am told that he was a sheriff or deputy (in either Frio, Bexar or Fayette County?). He died in Fayette County, Texas on October 15, 1899, as a 43 year old man. His widow, Cynthia Wisdom Stevens and 11 children, moved to Palo Pinto County, Texas shortly after his death. I would appreciate any information that can be obtained about this part of the Stevens family. Best wishes.
