Bill I am trying to sort out these Youngs, Maines and others. Hopefully you will be able to help D. Jackson "Jack" Young is believed to be my great grandmother's brother. Jack married first to Ann Elizabeth Lang 27 January 1870 in Montgomery County TX They had at least 6 children. Ann is believed to be my great grandfather's daughter. It is believed Ann died soon after the last child was born in December 1887 and Jack married Virginia "Jennie" Maines 15 Aug 1891 in Montgomery Co. TX and had at least 4 children. Jack died after the June 1900 Montgomery Co census was taken and Jennie died 3 January 1940 in Montgomery County TX (Death Certificate #4464). Jack and Jennie are buried in Dry Creek Cemetery and share a double tombstone. I have no information on the death of Ann. I know some say Jennie was married first to a Willie Cross and had children by him but I believe this is in error and believe it was Sarah, Jennie's older sister, that married the Cross and the 2 children living in the house with Elbert and Celia for the 1900 census are the children of Sarah and Mr Cross. I believe that LDS shows the marriage of Jack to Virginia Maines. I believe she would be shown as Cross if she had been married. The 1880 census shows Jennie living in the home of her parents -- she is 16 years old and if you look at the original census record she is shown as single. Also I believe she would be shown as a Cross if she was married and divorced. The 1900 census of Montgomery County Texas shows Jack and Jennie with their children as well as Jack's children by Ann living in the house. I know at least one of these Cross children shows Jennie as the mother on the death certificate, however I have at least 3 people in my family that has incorrect parents on their death certificates. I appreciate your views on this and thank you for any information. Betty |
