I am researching my great grandfather, Hugh Tobin's family and I am hoping someone out there has some info. Beyond my great grandfather, I am not sure of the accuracy of the info that I have, and I have been unable to go any further.
Hugh Tobin was born Aug 1881 in Camden, Calhoun Co., Arkansas. He married Edna May Edwards 30 Jun 1901 in Aubrey, Denton Co., Texas, and he died in a car accident in 1929 in Plainview, Hale Co., Texas. My grandmother, Virginia Ruth Tobin was their 9th child out of 11.
Hugh's parents were Francis or Frank E. (F.E.) Tobin, who was born Mar 1851 in Arkasnas, and died 22 Dec 1920 in Kaufman Co., Texas. F.E. Tobin was married to Mary Graham Shofner (I found her listed as Mollie Shofner on their AR marriage record.) who was born 25 Sep 1854/55 in Arkansas and died 3 Nov 1917 in Aubrey, Denton Co., Texas. According to what I have seen, her parents were Henry Pinkney Shofner and Margaret Rogers.
I believe F.E. Tobin's parents were Cornelius D. (or C.D.) Tobin and his mother was Sallie (Unknown), born in England. I have seen information linking this Cornelius Tobin to the Cornelius Tobin who came from Kilkenny Co., Ireland to Barnwell Dist., South Carolina, but I do not know if this is true.
I have found F.E. Tobin in the 1900 Denton Co., TX Census, with wife May (I think that is an error) and children Pearl, Jet, Hugh and Emery B. I also found C.D. Tobin in the 1870 Census with wife Sallie, children Frank, Maggie, Virgie, Fannie, Leonard, and Ida M.
I have found F.E. Tobin listed as the Calhoun Co. Surveyor, 1880-1882; and C.D. Tobin as the Calhoun Co. Assessor, 1872-1874 on the Calhoun Co., Arkansas GenWeb. If anyone has any information, please e-mail me. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!
