You're welcome, Brian. I did a little more checking and located the building in the old Sanborn Maps of Dallas (ca. 1921). American Exchange Nat'l Bank occupied the block bounded by Main, Elm, N. Akard and Exchange Place and bore the municipal numbers 1401-07-09-11 Main Street. These streets currently exist although I don't know what is there today. I also located a ca. 1915 photo of that particular part of downtown. When you view the photo note that on the left is the Scollard Building. To the right of that building is a couple of smaller building and then a high rise building which I believe is the bank building. It looks to be somewhere around 16-18 stories. Here's the link:

I'm sure that Dallas Public Library has the directories but, as you indicate, they're not very responsive. I also believe that you might be able to rent them from your local Family History Center, if you choose. Have you checked with RAOGK to see if there is a volunteer who does lookups? Rick
