I am trying to find any records of my Tye family in Comanche County, Texas. From various sources I know that my great grandparents, John Henry Tye and Lucy Jane Tye moved to Comanche County about 1800.
About the same time John's mother, Sabra Hart Tye, arrived with her grown son George Tye (who was single) and Sabra died in 1882.
My grandmother, John and Lucy's daughter, Katie Ann Tye and others of her siblings attended school in Comanche County. Katie wrote in a little grade school book the following message: "Miss Katie Tye book...presented to her by proff C. J. Rogers...Comanche Co Tex" The book is GRADED SELECTIONS FOR MEMORIZING by John B. Peaslee, A.M., PH.D. Another note of hers in the book seems to be "Co Coledge" which is her spelling and punctuation.
The book shows that it was published in 1880. Katie was born in 1874 in Missouri and her handwriting shows that she is already using cursive letters so it is probably from her third or fourth grade in school which would be before 1885.
Katie's older sister, Santa "Lena" Tye was married in Comanche County in 1887 to George Duran Lockhart.
If anything above connects with something you know please respond. Thanks
