According to family tradition - always suspect - great-grandfather Judge Preston Calvin THOMAS was a "Hanging Judge" who had to flee from Arkansas to Texas, where he died in 1864.

We know that grandfather Seaborn G. S. Thomas (probably his son) was living in Brownville, Texas in 1880 (used his initials on the census - S.G. S. Thomas) and again in 1900. Seaborn was born in 1848 in Arkansas and died in 1907 in Brownville. But where did his father come from?

In 1880, Seaborn said his father was born in Tennessee.
In 1900, Seaborn said his father was born in Kentucky.

We can't find Preston Calvin Thomas in Arkansas or in Tennessee in 1850 or 1860. Have tried variations on the name - Calvin P, P.C., C. P. and so forth - and wonder if another descendant can shed some light on this mystery for us.
