My great grandfather's name was George Dallas Perkins. About all the family knows about him was he married Rosa Eagle Lewis in La Grange TX in 1877. They had three sons: Henry Wright born in La Grange, Robert Decker born in La Grange (died at 20), and George Dallas (my grandfather) born in Beuamont 1882. My great uncle Henry was a genealogist back in the 50's and all that was written was George Dallas died. There was no date etc. Rosa remarried a David N Pope. Absolutely nothing was ever said about the first husband.
Searching one more time thru old documents etc I found his membership in the IOOF in Beaumont. I had that confirmed by the Grand Lodge located in Corsicana. They had a ledger showing that George received relief in 1884 and recorded he was deceased in their 1884 ledger. He was also issued a visiting card that showed he was a member in good standing and could apply for relief at any lodger wherever he might be. But have no idea where he went.
I got a copy of their marriage liscense and found out his age. On the 1880 census they were in La Grange and he reported he was born 1846. His father was born TN and mother NC. Searching the 1850 census I found a Berry Wright and Laney Truett Perkins living in Leon CO that had a George Dallas who fit what I knew. I followed him thru up to the 1880 census. After that he disappears. Rosa shows up until 1930 when she dies.
I went back another generation to Berry's parents Wright and Jane and found out they migrated from TN to Bastrop
All the circumstantial evidence lives me to belief that I have the right line of Perkins. But I have no documented proof.
Going thru other public trees I see Berry had 3 children; Sarah, Mary and George. No one seems to know anything about George. Sure makes me think it is my George. One World Tree has the 1880 census (that I know is my George) linked to this family.
I apologize for such a lengthy post but can anyone help fill in some blanks. Maybe George died in Bastrop or Fayette CO?
