Barbara, Went searching through more records for your Cass. I believe he is James C. Treadaway, son of Jackson Littleton Treadaway and Nancy Rogers. The reason being is the time frame, the area, and a Nancy. The 1880 Census lists Cass with his wife Adeline and his children, but also his mother Nancy. The 1870 Lanes Creek, Union Co., NC Census lists Nancy with children Mary M., Wiley, and Adeline, but James C. was not listed with her. She was widowed then. I believe Cass was living with another relative. Hope this helps.
