Decided to check an article, "Saga of a Maine Towne Family" that I wrote in March 1994 (appeared in "About Towne," Vol. XIV, NO. 1, p 4-9. Can now clarify about Capt. Daniel Merrill. Daniel Merrill (7 May 1767-6 Sep 1808) Parents were John Merrill and 2nd wife, Mary Hutchins. Capt. Daniel Merrill m. on 17 Sep 1797 at Arundel (Kennebunkport) to Sarah (Miller) Towne after her husband Amos [5] Towne, Jr. died 8 Sep 1793. Sarah Miller's was b. 8 Oct 1755 to Jeremiah Miller and Elizabeth Lassell and d. on 10 Sep 1840. Amos Towne, Jr. and his first wife, Jane Smith, had 11 children, and he and Sarah had 6 children. He died 5 mos. after the birth of his 17th child. Capt. Daniel Merrill and Sarah (Miller) Towne had two daughters, Jane Merrill, b 16 Sep 1795 and Jenny Merrill, b. bef. 1803.
