I rarely see our families anywhere online so I thought I would go ahead and post what I have and maybe that will help some of us Tournear researchers find each other and share information. I have mainly been working on Jean Baptiste Tournier's (John B. Tourney) children from his second wife and since most of them went by the Tournear version of their surname, this was the board I chose. I have been trying to organize what I have for a few people who asked for it and no matter how much I find it always looks incomplete.

Philander Falton Tournie was born on 28 Jan 1844 in Adams County, Illinois, the eigth child of John B. Tourney/Tournier and Mary Catherine Ballot/Belot. He served in the Civil in the 7th Illinois Cavalry. After the war he moved to Kansas. I can't find him in the 1870 census, but in 1880 he is in Sheridan County, Kansas living with the Geo H. Payne family and is a grocer (indexed as Fournie by Ancestry.com) and in 1900 he is in Eureka TWP, Rice County, Kansas with the Philip Klinkel family (indexed as Sournie by Ancestry.com). He is listed as being born in Illinois in both and with his parents being born in France. In 1880 his age is 8 years off. He is listed as Philander in both.

Every census I found said single, but I did find this, "Info from KC, MO Directories, 1889-91. She is listed as Mary L. Turner, widow of Philander." which could possibly be an exwife, but I'm leaning towards a coincidence. I believe Philander died in Kansas but he is buried in Hill Cemetery in Daviess County, Missouri with his siblings. He died on 3 May 1901.

Philander is listed as Tournie in the 1880 and 1900 censuses and as Tournie. (and yes there is a period) on his headstone.
