My ggggrandparents, Charnock Cox and Avarilla Stone Rust were buried in John Lindsey Cemetery near Glendale. Glendale was not in existence, when they were buried, and the cemetery listing was Culleoka. Charnock Cox Rust died in 1832 and Avarilla Rust died in November 1841.
I have found references to the Lindsey Cemetery in the Culleoka and Maury County web pages and a description as to where the cemetery was located in its write-up.
Today, March 16, 2011, my nephew did a search for the cemetery and it is no longer there. He reported that there was some rubbish and old stones in a pile behind the barn where the cemetery was supposely located. My question is what happened to the gravesite. Two names listed in the last writeup about the cemetery were John Lindsay and Goodman Hight. Goodman Hight married Sarah Ann Rust who was the daughter of the Rusts. I do not know the connection to John Lindsay and the other people buried there.
There is a Tennessee law that prohibits anyone from destroying a cemetery and I will be bringing this desecration to the attention of the Maury County authorities. I am posting this in case any of the current residents of Maury or any descendants of the these people would like to get in contact with me. The last listing included six names:
CREWS, Sarah Elizabeth, 15 Jul 1843 - 11 Jan 1862. (19-06-15.) (Stone not found, 1987.)
DENTON, W. T., 9 Jan 1852 - 11 Mar 1870.
DENTON, Gorda, 23 Mar 1814 - 17 Mar 1864.
HIGHT, Goodman S., 1 Jan 1863 - 29 Sep 1885. (Box tomb.)
LINDSAY, John, 30 Mar 1768 - 8 Jun 1825. (One of the Commissioners appointed on 4 Dec 1807 to lay off the site of the county seat)
WRIGHT, John S., 27 Dec 1840 - 18 Dec 1869. (Head stone not found. Found Footstone: J. S. W.; Confederate States Army; mar. 1st, Eugenia Jane Denton in 1865; 2nd, Emma Cole Denton in 1868
