I am not good at Civil war research, but I have learned that my gg-grandfather, William R. Logan, served in the 23d Ga CAV which later became a part of the 4th Ga CAV. Did Col Avery muster this unit in Bradley County, Hamilton Co, or elsewhere. Does anyone know anything about these units. I believe William R. Logan to have been living in Cleveland when the war started. Was it common for the people in one state to enlist in a unit that was named as being from a different state? |
