Jennifer,

I have been wading through census records for Tierney's. I came accross a Miles Tierney age 50 born in Ireland and a miner by occupation as hoh in the 1870 Luzerne Co Pennsylvania Census. Listed with him:

Elizabeth Sweeney age 40 b in Irel Keeping House
Eliza J Sweeney age 16 b in PA
James Sweeney age 14 b in PA works in mine
Catharine Sweeney age 12 b in PA
Martha Sweeney age 10 b in PA
Maragret Sweeney age 8 b in PA

In this census it does not give marriage state. So we don't know if Elizabeth was widowed and Miles sister. She could just be a housekeeper, but there is that chance she is his sister.

I saw one of the childen from your family had the given name of Sweeney. Thought this might interest you. When I came across this family, it niggled at the back of my mind that I came across another family that Tierneys and Sweeneys were enumerated together, but for the life of me I can't remember. I know it was in the years of 1860 or 1870.

Maybe this will be a help to you!

Dale
