I can recall that a Canadian database search engine called ingeneas turned up a John Tierney who arrived in 1844 or 46 aged 13 or so. There also appeared to be a sister Mary ( or is it margaret?) who was 11. There was also a mother (mary or Margaret I can't recall which) listed as a widow. They arrived in Toronto. I've ordered the background info on other files this archive had and they sent me the photocopies of the original papers concerning the arrival of these people. Sometimes the place of origin is named. some papers even listed the coach trip my ancestors in question took and on what day of the year they arrived, the cost for the trip and the destination where they went. That is interesting stuff because one can place exactly where and when ones ancestors were and begin to appreciate all the background and current events surrounding their arrival.
